Hello Lovelies,
I am going to try to avoid spoilers for this book. However, I loved this story, and I would love to get into some of the details of it. Rowenna Miller did such an excellent job with this book. It is the perfect book if you are into supernatural superstitions. The book takes place in the early 1900s, which already has me hooked. I thoroughly enjoy books that take place before what is considered modern-day. It is about two sisters who have grown up with magic around them, and they make little bargains with the fairies and their town of Prospect Hill. These secret trades are passed down through generations to help the farmers harvest or keep their kitchens clean. Overall, nothing scary, nothing too big; they have been taught not to ask for things outside the bargains they already know work. The story starts with two sisters coming face to face with momentous changes. One is struggling to keep the family farm going, and the other is looking to get married to this wealthy gentleman from the big city. The aesthetic and vibes of this book are so pleasing for the September and October timeline. I love it. There are so many cozy, warm descriptions in this book about their small town and the farm that they live on. The way things are described and how they talk in this book are so soft and warm that it is the perfect book to start off your fall reading. If you are the kind of person who likes to read books for the vibe, this is the book for you. While parts of the book seem like nothing happens, I enjoyed just living in this book and not worrying about crazy plot changes happening. I feel like a lot of the significant action happens toward the end of the book. However, if you're paying attention, I feel like there are little hints throughout the cozy storyline at the beginning that foreshadow what is going to be happening at the end of the story. The sisterly love that happens and the relationship with the way that it grows in this book is so beautiful. The relationship really changes between them at the beginning of the book from what we are told what they are like. The book also has this very powerful message about femineity and girlhood that really resonated with me while reading. As someone who grew up with superstitions like leaving a bit of sugar out on the counter for the Faries, throwing salt over your shoulder for good luck, or lifting your feet when you go over the railroad tracks because the iron is bad luck, I really enjoyed all the cute little bargains in this book that were described. Some parts of this book are very scary; it is very clear that the author knows that Faries are not something to be messed with or taken lightly. I thoroughly enjoyed that aspect of this book because as someone who grew up believing in magic and fairies and still does, it's something I take very seriously. Overall, this story is a book I will go back and reread every September; it definitely got me into a spooky magic vibe leading into the fall. I highly recommend it to you if you are somebody who likes a book with good vibes. However, if you are the kind of person who needs constant action in a book this is not the book for you. I will be honest and say that you will get very bored if that is the type of book you read. If you read it, please let me know if you enjoy it. Happy reading.
